Season 2 of The Dusty And Rusty Show

Season 2 of The Dusty and Rusty Show is gearing up and we are looking for guests to appear on our show!

The Dusty and Rusty Show is a 15 minute humorous PG-13 audio podcast by and about 2 clueless redneck geezers who don't quite understand the world they live in. Their unique understanding of reality is what makes them so endearing.

We are looking for 2 types of guests: Real and Fake. In either case, there should be little to no "seriousness". I.E. no politics, religion or other contentious, offensive or sensitive topics.

Probably the best way to figure out if you're interested in being a guest of either kind is to listen to a few episodes. We have done 2 interviews but one was with the Punkin Flats resident Mime, who never speaks (Episode 4) and the other was Episode 13 1/2 - our Halloween Special  where we interviewed ourselves as two other characters.

The whole concept is based on 2 old country geezers who talk about things without really understanding it. I guess the prime example of that is "fiddlegaggery". Dusty makes up that word in passing and things escalate from there until Dusty & Rusty try to sell made up words to "Mr. Roj-et" to put in his "The Saurus" book. Kinda low-brow in one respect, yet it requires that the listener knows what "Roget's Thesaurus" is in the first place :D

Certainly, this isn't everyone's cup of soup/tea/coffee. We know there is a market for this - stuff: after all "Hee Haw" was popular for ages and eons and was basically "hillbilly", "redneck", "country" humor.

REAL GUESTS would be interviewed in a semi-scripted manner and would include things like podcasters, actors, dish detergent salespeople and antelope ranchers. Anything that can safely be misunderstood by the densest of old geezers. Taboo topics would be anything of a serious nature such as disabilities, political, moral or otherwise 'touchy' subjects. The goal is to have a topic which is safely misunderstood and made fun of in a light-hearted way.

Example: You have a podcast about cryptids. We'd work with you beforehand so we can ask prepared questions like "Does Sasquatch really smell as bad as they say?". We then may go off on tangents with stuff like "My cousin's best friend's Dad claims he's part Sasquatch and he _does_ smell pretty bad when he sweats. He runs a hardware store over to Persimmon Gulch and he howls at the moon sometimes. Could he be part Sasquatch?". Here, the guest could 'set the record straight' by saying something like "Well, sounds more like he's part wolf or maybe part chupacabra..." and then start discussing some episodes about smelly Sasquatches or chupacabras. Which could, of course, lead to more inane questions... Much more fun than "Do Sasquatch have a peculiar odor?" and "Yes, several people have reported an odd smell associated with their Sasquatch sightings."

The end result should be that Dusty and Rusty have no clue what you do or why you do it, but the audience will. We'd end the segment with something like "Well, we have no clue what this is about but check out the 'Crypto Zoo' podcast on anchor... link is in the description of this week's show.

FAKE GUESTS would be non-scripted and semi-scripted, improv-like (but _not_ true improv), just-for-fun segments of quirky guests. We are currently working on some 'local yokel' ideas where the guest would be a local denizen of some (fake) area around the (imaginary) town of Punkin Flats, Missouri. So you might be a local farmer who grows sauerkraut. The quirk being you insist that you grow sauerkraut even though it is normally made from cabbage. You insist that cabbage is entirely different from your sauerkraut. Or maybe your could be a rancher of stuffed animal donkeys. Weird is fine and Dusty and Rusty might try to straighten you out, or may pitch in and make the whole thing even weirder.

In this case, if you you have a link to some project or other promotional webpage (actor/improv/lawyer/fish salesman, etc), we'd be happy to mention that and put the link in that week's description.

Technical details:

At the moment we use Zencastr to record our shows. This works well because each participant of the session is recorded separately, making editing much easier. However, since we're using the free version, we only have one channel available. That means we have room for one more  audio track. Hence, if the "guest" is more than one person, then they need to be able to either share a mic or have an outboard mixer feed into their PC and connect that way. This means that it's not possible to edit out any case where multiple guests might step on each other's lines, but it's no giant deal.

Disclaimer and Contact eMail

We do not have a ton of listeners. We do this for fun. The hope of finding a formula that works and might make the show popular is always there, but is not our all-consuming priority. We don't know what the hell we're doing anyways, so trying to find that golden podcast is going to have to be organically generated. If you want super-stardom, we can't help. If you want to have fun trying bizarre things, you are more than welcome to audition. Let us know by way of dustynrusty@dr.com.
